Kayak Pumalín 4 Days
Beginning Include Day by Day Location Send a Friend Print
W e leave Puerto Varas early in the morning and we go to Hornopiren Port where we will take a secondary road which leads to the cold rain forest and goes along the Camau Fiord between the mountains and the sea. From this point we will sail for three days, camping by the sea amongst ancient forests and we will enjoy natural hot springs by the sea.

Day 1 Santiago/Puerto varas

We pick you up at the meeting point, Puerto Montt’s Airport and we take you to Greco Hotel in Puerto Varas. During the afternoon we will have a coffee and talk about details of the trip.

Day 2 Puerto Varas / Quintumpeo Fiord

We will drive to Hornopiren where we will go to the sea in our Kayaks and right before that you will be given safety, rescue and paddling instructions. We will start Paddling to the narrow entrance of Quintupeo Fiord. This day we will sail for 4 spectacular hours, at the heart of Pumalin Park. The Fiord has huge granite walls , we can see waterfalls that jump from the Andes to the sea, this is undoubtedly a beautiful little corner of this planet. At the end of the fiord we will set camp and relax.

Day 3 LLancahue/Cahuelmo

This will be our longest day, we will paddle for 5 to 6 hours, nearly 20 miles and depending on the weather and the tide, we might have to do some night sailing, which will give us a different view of the fiord. As every effort is rewarded, we will arrive to Cahuelmo Fiord after about 5 hours, a wonderful place with big mountains that rise from the sea and then go inland amongst narrow valleys waiting to be explored. We will see a colony of sea lions and once we have reached the end of the fiord we will find the Cahuelmo Hot Springs, a part of the Pumalin Project. We will set camp near the natural pools dug on the rock by local people in the early 30`s. We will enjoy a hot spring bath and the amazing southern latitude sunset. Dinner and free afternoon.

Day 4 Cahuelmo/ Abascal Lake, Puerto Varas

Depending on the weather and on the group’s energy we will wait for the low tide to walk to Abascal Lake. This lake is surrounded by mountains and it provides excellent fishing. We will return after lunch and on the way we can listen to many birds such as Chucao or the alarm calls by Huet Huet and if we watch real close we may see the Pudu’s footprints, the smallest deer on earth. If we are lucky we might see a flying Condor or the footprint of a Puma. Once we get back we will take  boat to sail to Hornopiren where we will take our private mini  bus back to Puerto Varas. We will take a shorter way this time and then a ferry across the Reloncavi Estuary and from there we will go to Greco Hotel.
