We strongly believe that our two strengths are the places we choose to make our trips and the people who work with us which turn into a combination of good and respectful relationship with our guides, the local people, our customers and the environment.
Our permanent concern for safety in our trips, our care for details in our service, comfort and good sense of humor make Miralejos Chile Adventure’s trips a unique and amazing experience for those who want to travel in Chile’s wild nature.
It is clear for Miralejos that it is quite challenging to travel in wild nature where rain, mud and tiredness are part of the experience. We therefore consider it of great importance to be able to sleep in dry, comfortable places so we use Mountain Hard Ware tents, Therma Rest mattresses and a tent for dinning and cooking. We are aware of the importance meals have when doing outdoors activities, so we have a cook in each trip that takes care of providing a balanced diet which ranges from vegetarian food to lamb barbecues, depending on the costumers. We also have wines and cheese for afternoon appetizers. Given the Fact that we travel in remote places, we want to leave a positive trace so we try to buy as many supplies as possible from the local people who live in these isolated places, year round.
These settlers lead a simple life based on cooperation amongst members of the community, livestock and low scale agriculture. It is therefore an honor for us to be invited to have a Mate in their homes or to ride with them.
We also travel under the concept of eco tours and we use all low impact techniques to guarantee a clean trip in harmony with the environment. Given the characteristics of our trips, we prefer to use the word “expedition” since we face challenges both at a group and personal level. Another characteristic of our trip is that we can almost guarantee that we are not going to meet another group of tourists.
We define our trips as eco Tours. The environment is extremely important for Miralejos Chile Adventure and our guides enjoy sharing their knowledge of Chilean ecology, native plants, wild life and the effects humans have had in the ecosystem.During our trips it is not unusual to see unique species which are in danger of extinction. Nature can be very fragile and we therefore make our trips as eco friendly as we possibly can, following all minimal impact techniques and leaving no trace.
We leave no trash. Trash does not exist in nature, everything changes and goes back to the ground. We call trash anything that does not belong to the place in a natural way and we therefore take all waste back with us, including that left by others by mistake.
If toilets facilities are available we use them if not, we burry our body waste alt least 20 cm deep and at least 100 m from the nearest water course, away from camp, paths or shelters.
Once we are finished, the fire must be put off with water and covered with dirt.
When we wash or clean, we carry some water away from its course. The water is thus drained in the land which works as a filter. We take care to leave no unburied food waste or we take it back with all our trash.
We will make sure to choose an adequate and safe place to set our camps. We will try not to disturb the fauna and choose a place which has already been impacted. We will not stay longer than two days in the same place and when we leave, we make sure to leave no trace.
We will follow the existing paths not to harm the fragile plants around us. We will walk on a row and where there are no paths we will spread in order not to step the same place many times and thus minimize our impact.
During our trips we have a high chance to meet the local fauna, we may have some wonderful encounter with animals which we can photograph or watch from a certain distance, in order not to disturb them.
To treat any place with a spiritual or historical meaning with the highest respect.
It is not common that we meet many other tourists, but we will surely meet the local people who we treat with respect since we travel in their territory and we often camp in their property. In Torres del Paine and other National Parks, we camp in established places and we must keep in mind that everybody has the right to enjoy the place and silence, so we must always be prepared to share the place with other people.
Enjoy your stay in Chile’s wild nature, remember to look back when you leave a place, keep these rules and remember the saying: ”take only your pictures back and leave only your boot prints”.
Due to the fact that we practice content tourism, we like to share some lectures as we travel. Attendance to these lectures is completely free and their aim is to reinforce or acquire knowledge about outdoors life. The idea is that you will not only take this experience and pictures back to your home but you will also take with you the knowledge of techniques to live in nature.
The lectures we can give are:
Besides these free attendance lectures we will give you instructions on rowing and rescue techniques, horse riding and horse safety techniques, mountain walking techniques and the use of crampons and ice axes, depending on the activities we do.
Breakfast is always abundant and rich in calories, a typical breakfast includes pancakes, cereals, eggs with bacon or mushrooms, dry fruits, honey, coffee or tea, home made bread and wholegrain cookies.
Lunch is easy to make, we usually have sandwiches or tacos you can fill with avocado, tomatoes, salami, smoked salmon, lettuce and other vegetables as well as fruits, chocolate and plenty of liquids.
Our most important meal is dinner, this is the moment to celebrate the day. In many of our trips we use wood for our cooking fire and we enjoy some cheese, wine or a Pisco sour as we wait for the food to be ready.
We understand the pleasure of eating delicious and abundant food while traveling in wild nature so we enjoy providing good food to our passengers under any circumstance or on any landscape. Many of our trips include lamb barbecues or “curanto “(a typical dish which includes shell fish, chicken, meat and potatoes) but we are always ready to give vegetarians a treat so we can always serve you delicious vegetables.
Depending on the number of people, we use a minibus which is comfortable and allow us to take a good look at the landscape, we usually take a 4x4 vehicle to carry all our gear. In these roads at the end of the world, there are many things that can delay our trips, like fallen trees on the road, works on bridges or delayed ferries.
These support boats are big enough to carry the kayaks as well as the passengers. We will use these boats especially as we go out of the fiords. We rent these boats from local people and their captains are familiar with the winds, currents and tides of these southern fiords.
We have chosen as our local guides for horse tours the people who best treat their horses. The horses we use have been born and trained in the valleys we visit; they are quite skilled at walking on rocks, crossing hanging bridges or rivers and walking on muddy ground. These horses have been trained from a young age as expedition horses so they are meek and easy to handle. We use load horses when the group is larger than two people. In the case of a group of 6 people, for example, each person will have his/her own horse and saddlebags to carry supplies for the day and the rest of the equipment will be carried by load horses. For a 6 people group we will have 3 load horses, two local guides, a main guide and a cook, all of which will provide a good service. The horses will be saddled and equipped with the gear Gauchos and mule drivers use. Saddles are designed for long rides and they provide stability and comfort. We use 60 lt. dry bags to carry personal equipment in a safe, comfortable and dry way.
Our horse trips will take us to places one can only reach by horse or on foot so horses are appreciated by the local people since they are the only means of transportation possible in these lands.
We are well aware of how important it is to have a good rest in a dry, comfortable and clean place. At the beginning and at the end of our trip we include Hotels in our prices, we also use some lodgings and cottages in the middle of the trips as in Kayak in Pumalin, Kayak from the Andes to the Pacific and in Callao Multi Activities. The soul of out trips is the expedition therefore we use Mountain Hardware tents nevertheless given a more comfortable chance, we take it.
In many of our trips we have the chance to spend the night with families who live in these incredible landscapes. So we have several possibilities like 3 stars hotels, lodges, cottages, family homes and tents and we always keep in mind the best choice for the passenger.
If any of our passengers want to take a different option than the one we offer, he/she just has to mention it and we will arrange the price difference.
